The Echidna Team Blog
We think we've got some interesting things to say - but you be the judge.
Design for your users - not yourself!

- Who is your target audience?
- What do you want your target audience to do?
It’s unfortunate that many web designers don’t consider these two extremely important questions when developing websites.
At Echidna we understand the importance of defining your target audience and begin every web project brainstorming about just that – asking client’s who their target audience is and how that target audience should be rated in terms of importance.
Web projects (or any communication’s project for that matter) often start with design. Clients, designers and developers are excited about the vast opportunities that lie ahead and think about how wonderful the website, brochure or poster could look – but, is this what makes a project successful?
At Echidna we feel that while a great design is important, what is most important are usability, accessibility and understanding your audience and goals. This is what makes a web project successful – designing for your users – not yourself!
So before you begin your next web project remember to think about:
- Describing your audience and all potential visitors to your website
- Ranking your visitors in order of importance
- Weighting your visitors in terms of importance
- Creating a list of content relevant to each type of audience
Considering these few points is what will bring your website from a pretty picture – to a powerful marketing and communication’s vehicle.
